MUSEUM OF ARTS AND SCIENCES HOSTSART IN MOTION
DISPLAY OF FERRARI AUTOMOBILES, AUTOMOTIVE ART
& CULINARY DELIGHTS.
DAYTONA BEACH, FL- October 2002- The MUSEUM OF ARTS AND SCIENCES in Daytona Beach will present a rare selection of over Thirty Five Ferrari automobiles combined with a display of automotive art and fine food. The presentation is entitled ART IN MOTION and will take place on November 17th from 12:00-5:00pm. It is sponsored in part by EVANS AND SONS JEWELERS, MARTINIS RESTAURANT and SHELTON FERRARI of Fort Lauderdale.
Tickets are available for $40.00 per person or $75.00 per couple.
The Museum is situated on a 90 acre preserve in the heart of Daytona Beach and boasts over 92,000 square feet of art, science and history. Some of the collections include the Schulte collection of Chinese art with Ming tomb figures, Ch'ing gemstone carvings, the Bouchelle gallery of Jewelry and a 27 piece gemstone selection from the Smithsonian. Additionally the museum is home to the most complete fossil discovery made in Florida, a planetarium and other items of interest.
On display within the impeccably manicured grounds of the museum will be over 35 vehicles from the world renown, Scudderia Ferrari (Garage of Ferrari). Guests will view cars with names like Testa Rosa, Barchetta, Tour de France and Daytona Spider. Al Brewer of EVANS AND SONS JEWELERS, who was instrumental in organizing the event had this to say To many a car is simply a means of transportation. A Ferrari however stands for something much more. Ferrari represents a racing heritage that dates back half a century which is to this day stronger than ever. While appreciating these automotive masterpieces, guests will indulge in an exciting array of culinary delights provided by Martinis restaurant.
Also on display will be the art of two world-renowned automotive artists. Alfredo de la Maria and W.K. Gilbert. Both artists are widely collected by automotive connoisseurs but work in two completely different styles. Alfredo De La Maria paints with a more realistic brush and is known for his work having warm, rich colors and a feeling of Motion. W.K. Gilbert works in a more abstract manor with a bold use of color and an almost menacing portrayal of Formula One race cars. Although both men paint historically accurate images, the time periods in which they specialize differ. Alfredo focuses on what some consider to be a more romantic era of racing, the 1930s-1960s. Gilbert paints the more contemporary Formula One drivers of today. Joe Sabatini of the EUROPA GALLERY in Mount Dora had this to say The showing of these two modern masters together offers a unique opportunity for automotive enthusiasts to appreciate their work in one location. All pieces on display will be offered for sale.
In addition to the car and art display, something very special to the hearts of all Ferrari enthusiasts will take place. The film Victory by Design will be shown in the museums theatre along with three other films. The film which is coveted by Ferrari fans of all types depicts veteran racecar driver Alain DeCadeney traveling on the open road with some of the earliest to most recent Ferrari race and road cars.
